Earlobe Repair in Baton Rouge, LA

Years of wearing heavy earrings, an earring that got caught on clothing, or a gauge you’ve outgrown can all leave earlobes stretched, torn, or split. It’s more common than most people think, and it’s very fixable. At LA Dermatology, our providers perform earlobe repair right here in our Baton Rouge office, so you can get back to wearing the earrings you love, or simply feel good about how your ears look again.

What Is Earlobe Repair?

Earlobe repair is a quick, minor surgical procedure that restores the natural shape of the earlobe. Your provider carefully removes the stretched or torn tissue and closes the area with fine sutures so it heals smoothly. Most repairs are done in about 30 to 60 minutes with local anesthesia, and you’ll be able to head home the same day.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Earlobe repair may be a good fit if you have:

  • An elongated or stretched piercing hole
  • A partial or complete tear through the earlobe
  • A gauged or stretched lobe you’d like to close
  • An old piercing you no longer want
  • Earlobes damaged by injury

During your consultation, your provider will look at your earlobes, talk with you about your goals, and let you know whether you’d like to re-pierce down the road so the repair can be planned with that in mind.

What to Expect

Before: We’ll review your medical history and answer any questions. Most patients don’t need much prep beyond avoiding certain blood-thinning medications or supplements if your provider recommends it.

During: The area is numbed so you stay comfortable. Your provider reshapes the lobe and closes it with small stitches.

After: You may notice mild tenderness or swelling for a few days. Most patients go right back to their normal routine. Stitches are usually removed within one to two weeks, and your provider will give you simple aftercare instructions to keep the area clean while it heals.

Can I Get My Ears Pierced Again?

Yes, in most cases. Once the earlobe has fully healed, usually after several weeks, your provider can let you know when it’s safe to re-pierce. We typically recommend placing the new piercing slightly away from the scar line and choosing lighter earrings to help protect your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does earlobe repair hurt?

Your earlobe is numbed before the procedure, so most patients feel little more than a quick pinch from the injection.

Will there be a scar?

There will be a small, thin line where the lobe was closed. It typically fades over time and is hard to notice once healed.

How long is recovery?

Downtime is minimal. Most people return to work and daily activities the same day or the next.

Is earlobe repair covered by insurance?

Earlobe repair is usually considered cosmetic, but coverage can vary. Our team is happy to go over your options, including payment plans and CareCredit.
