Top 3 Pros of Dysport

You’ve likely heard of Botox, a highly effective and very popular wrinkle reducing treatment. But you may not know as much about another wrinkle reducer, Dysport. While similar, these two have a few key differences. Here’s how Dysport differs from Botox and why you should consider this cosmetic treatment.

What Are the Benefits of Dysport Treatment?

Dysport and Botox

Dysport and Botox come from the same family of wrinkle reducing treatments. They both use a prescription solution with an active ingredient of botulinum toxin. This ingredient is injected into the tiny muscles surrounding a problematic wrinkle, effectively “relaxing” the muscles. When these muscles — which contract when smiling, frowning, or squinting — relax, the wrinkle becomes smooth.

Both Dysport and Botox are FDA-cleared for certain wrinkles on the face. Both wrinkle reducing treatments are temporary and will require administering roughly every four to six months, depending on the severity of the wrinkle and how well the skin responds to the treatment. Both treatments should be administered at a dermatology office to ensure safe and effective results.

Both wrinkle reducers have minimal side effects, with a little swelling and pain at the injection site being the most common. A few more moderate but rare side effects are drooping eyelids, muscle spasms, and sore throat. In extremely rare cases, botulinum toxicity can occur with issues related to breathing, speaking, and swallowing.

Dysport Is Specifically Formulated for Glabellar Lines

While Botox is often used on forehead lines and crow’s feet (the tiny lines around the corners of the eyes), Dysport is specifically approved for the glabellar lines. These vertical lines are found between the eyebrows, extending up to the central forehead. There can be one line, two lines, or several lines depending on the way the muscles around them (called the corrugator supercilii muscles) contract. These wrinkles commonly show up when squinting or concentrating but can more deeply appear as a result of sun exposure, smoking, and lack of moisturization.

Dysport Can Be More Affordable

The treatment site isn’t the only thing to keep in mind when choosing a wrinkle reducer. Since both Botox and Dysport are repeat investments, you want to carefully consider their costs. Generally speaking, Dysport tends to be slightly more affordable than Botox, coming in around $450-500 dollars per session, versus the $550-600 for each session of Botox injectables. While the difference isn’t much, it can make an impact over time.

Results from Dysport Can Appear Sooner

One of the most commonly reported benefits of Dysport is its speedy, effective results. Typically, the smoothing of glabellar lines following a Dysport treatment shows up in a few days, while results from Botox can take weeks or even a month to be visible. This reason alone makes Dysport a highly popular option for many, especially those looking to get rid of wrinkles fast.
