Why a Hair Removal Treatment Is Just What You Need This Spring
Unwanted hair can show up just about anywhere on the body — from the face to the chest to the stomach and more. While the tiny hairs that cover most of the surface of the skin (known as vellus hair) are completely natural and nothing to worry about, they can cause people to feel self-conscious if they grow in especially dark and noticeable. This swimsuit season, don’t be embarrassed about dark or unwanted vellus hair. Check out these laser therapies and other treatments for quick and easy hair removal.
What to Know About Hair Removal Treatment
The GentleMax Pro™ Laser
The GentleMax Pro™ dermatologist laser is a single consolidated system that delivers an array of treatments. It’s commonly the top choice in dermatology offices for laser hair removal. This treatment uses a dual wavelength laser platform that combines the speed and power of 755 nm Alexandrite laser (GentleLASE®) with the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser (GentleYAG®) for high performance treatment capabilities in terms of speed, efficacy, ease-of-use, outstanding performance, safety, and patient satisfaction.
These two laser therapies, GentleLASE® and GentleYAG®, are very popular for hair removal on all skin colors. Often, other laser therapies are only suited for candidates with light skin and dark hair, but the GentleMax Pro™ can treat anyone, including those with tan skin. This laser hair removal system also has the ability to target finer hairs that may have been previously untouched by many other laser therapies on the market.
You should expect about four to six treatments in order to fully remove the hair in the treated area. Each treatment will require numbing with a topical lidocaine for 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure. The fee for hair removal will depend on the size of the treated area.
Dermaplaning
An alternative to laser hair removal is dermaplaning, a popular cosmetic treatment that removes vellus hair on the face with the use of a sterile surgical blade. Dermaplaning, also known as blading or microplaning, has the added bonus of minimizing surface wrinkles, evening out skin texture, and reducing scars from acne or sun damage. By sloughing off the top layer of “peach fuzz” hair and dead skin cells, dermaplaning works to manually exfoliate the skin.
Results are noticeable with just one treatment, as two to three weeks’ worth of dead skin cells and vellus hair is removed. However, unlike laser therapies, this method is superficial. Therefore results aren’t permanent, and treatments will be required each time the new hair grows in, about every four weeks or so.
During the treatment, an experienced professional will pull small sections of the skin taut and then use quick, gentle strokes with the scalpel to remove the vellus hair. The treatment takes roughly 20-30 minutes and requires no downtime. Plus, since no chemicals or lasers are used, dermaplaning is safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin and even for pregnant women.
